Have you ever thought about what it would be like to play on the field of dreams? If you reserve a spot at Baseball Country, you will have your chance. On two pristine baseball fields in the heartland of America, children of ages from ages eight to eighty have been enjoying America's pastime since 1995. Both fields are surrounded with corn as the outfield boundaries; visions much like ones you might have seen in a movie somewhere. The more compact ballpark, "Wiggly Field," allows players ages 7-10 a chance to hit one deep in the corn, while "Corniskey Park" serves as a more suitable field of dreams for campers aged 11 and up.

With over 50 acres, Baseball Country serves as one of the south's premier facilities for professsional instruction, yet also provides plenty of fun outside of the game of baseball. The purpose of Baseball Country is to teach the fundamentals of the game it takes to win, yet also giving campers a unique opportunity to just relax and have fun in a place that God's beauty is constantly in focus. The majority of time at camp is spent doing drills that enhance the ability of the hitter, baserunner, and defensive player. Situational play is stressed, with the mental aspects of baseball given heavy emphasis. Games are played daily with individual attention to players strengths and weaknesses. Camps are offered in both baseball and girls fastpitch softball.

The Real Fields of Dreams...

Baseball Country began in 1995 and has steadily grown since. The camp accommodates only 18 campers per session. The staff-camper ratio is an impressive 1 : 6. Individual instruction has been widely attributed as the keystone to Baseball Country's success. Each camper is given an extaraordinary amount of attention by the instructors in oreder to fine-tune their skills. With the proper instruction and guidance, our coaches are able to provide exponentially more repetitions in the fundamentals of throwing, fielding, and hitting than you will find at virtually any other baseball camp in the nation.

Camps at baseball country are structured so that almost all of the time spent here is in small group or team activities. Through encouragement and motivation, it is the ultimate goal of the camp staff to encourage youngsters to be self-confident and leave with an unselfish, team-like mentality. When a youngster leaves Baseball Country, he or she has made new friends, learned the importance of putting the team (or others in general) before self, and most of all, has remembered an experience that will live forever.

A Vision Achieved...

Coach Kenny Burns is the director of Baseball Country. He is the former Head Baseball Coach of Tuscaloosa County High School. His experience as a player, coach, and camp director combine to virtually an entire lifetime of baseball, now over 40 years. Coach Burns played shortstop at Calhoun Jr. College and the University of West Alabama. Coach Burns has instructed hundreds of young men thoughout the Southeast as a staff member of Mississippi State University and the Universtiy of Alabama Summer baseball camps. However, Coach Burns is highly respected as much if not more for his personal ethics as he is for his knowledge of baseball. As a the huddle leader of the TCHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Coach Burns meets with teenagers every Friday mornig before class begins to lead them in fellowship. As a "Baseball Missionary" with Score International, Coach Burns has enjoyed the unique opportunity to spread the word of God to youngsters in the Dominican Republic through the game of baseball.

Kenny's wife, Angeline is also co-director of operations. She has 14 years of experience as an elementary teacher in Alabama public schools. Now she devotes much of her time to the administration of Baseball Country. She is an asset for those young campers who have never been away from home, or when a Mom's presence is needed.

Down Home Tradition & Quality Baseball...

Baseball Country is home for the Burns family (Kenny, Angeline, Drew, and Alexandra) around the year. The property has creeks, hiking trails, and vegetable, herb and flower gardens.

Whether cheering a teammate crossing home, hitting the ball into the corn, taking a hayride, catching a fish from the pond, or taking a break on the tire swing under the pecan trees, one thing is for sure: Baseball Country campers will never forget the memories they have created here.
